As cooler September days signify the start of autumn in New England, it is a good time to assess some of the sun damage that may have occurred this past summer. After the age of 18, most of us exhibit some sun damage. Some people are more prone to this problem, such as people with fair, freckled skin, people who have a family history of skin cancers, and individuals who have exposed themselves repeatedly to intense sun. People with all skin tones are vulnerable to sun damage. For people with fairer skin, sun damage is generally noted by increasing brown spots, both in number and in size. People with darker skin may notice the onset of blue black areas of discoloration. Damaged skin is made worse by exposure to ultraviolet radiation, smoking, pollution, stress, alcohol consumption, diets, and other environmental toxins. Ultimately, the skin shows areas of early breakdown with scaling patches (actinic keratoses) which can lead to a variety of skin cancers .Established skin care treatment programs have been shown to restore health to damaged skin. These programs depend on a combination of physician strength products that cannot be purchased over the counter or in a spa. Obagi
Nu-Derm Skin Care System
Obagi-C Rx Skin Care System For people who want a less aggressive system (who do not have as much sun damage), the new Obagi-C Rx Skin Care System fits the needs of many individuals. This skin care system incorporates the healing benefits of Vitamins C and E, hydroquinones, glycolics, and hyaluronidase (to improve hydration of the skin). Vitamin A (tretinoin) is not needed, though it can be combined with the C-Therapy Night Cream for those who want to use it. For information on the recommended daily application of the Obagi-C Rx System, please refer to the Obagi-C Rx Daily System Application. MD Forte Skin Care Program The MD Forte Skin Care Program does not use hydroquinones; therefore, does little to help pigmentary problems. Nevertheless, MD Forte skincare products are physician strength products and provide total facial and body skin rejuvenation. MD Forte skincare products contain 2 to 3 times higher levels of glycolic compound compared to similar over-the-counter products. These MD Forte products work by gently exfoliating the outer layers of dry, sun-damaged skin. Using the The MD Forte 4-Step Daily Regimen (Cleanse, Renew, Hydrate and Protect), you will see improvements in your skin within the first two weeks. This system works best for sun damaged skin due to aging that has normal, even pigmentation. |
