Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen Products from Skincare-MD

By now we should all be aware of the dangers of UV radiation from the sun. Ultraviolet radiation causes sun damage which can result in premature skin aging and skin cancers. Application of sunscreen to your skin is a necessary part of everyone’s daily routine just like washing your face and brushing your teeth. Sunscreen helps you look younger longer and can help to prevent skin cancer.

Protect Yourself from UVA & UVB Rays

There are UVA (long-wave) rays, UVB (short wave) rays, and UVC (the shortest rays that don’t typically reach the earth). UVA and UVB rays are considered ultraviolet light. They both cause premature skin aging and skin cancers.

UVA rays have two wave ranges, UVA1 at 340-400 nanometers*, and UVA2 which extends from 320-400 nanometers. UVA rays account for up to 95 percent of the UV radiation you are exposed to. UVA rays penetrate deeper into your skin and play a big role in skin aging. It is believed that UVA damages skin cells called keratinocytes in the layer of the skin where most skin cancers occur and UVA exposure may even initiate skin cancer. Tanning booths primarily emit UVA and expose your skin to ultraviolet radiation which can be as much as 12 times that of the sun. UVA rays penetrate glass.

UVB rays are the rays that burn or cause your skin to become red. UVB ranges from 290 to 320 nanometers. UVB rays are more intense and play a key role in the development of skin cancers. UVB rays can bounce off reflective surfaces like snow or ice which means that you are getting even more UVB than you might realize. UVB rays are strongest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When you tan, you are injuring your skin.

UVA and UVB radiation damages your skin’s cellular DNA and that can lead to skin cancers. It also causes premature aging. Broad Spectrum Sunscreens can protect your skin from both types of UV radiation so you can significantly reduce the chances of developing skin cancer and can continue to look younger longer.

Chemical and Physical Sunscreens for Broad Spectrum Protection.

All of the above products are formulated with active ingredients approved by the FDA for use in sunscreens. Most sunscreens contain a mixture of organic or inorganic active ingredients. Organic (chemical) sunscreens form a thin, protective film on your skin and absorb the UV radiation. Inorganic (physical) sunscreen reflects UV rays away from your skin.
