Which Skin Care Product Goes First?

Which Physician Strength Skin Care Product is Applied First?

Many of us use multiple skin care products on our skin in the morning and in the evening. It can be a very confusing process when using several products from different skin care lines. When using different skin care lines, you can never be sure just how to use them in conjunction with your other products. Do you put your eye cream on first? Do you apply your Vitamin C serum before the exfoliant? This article is provided with the hope that it will answer these questions and ease the stress of applying several skin care products to your skin.

Rule 1 - Apply "Thinnest to Thickest" Skincare Cream or Lotion

The most important thing I have learned over the years regarding the application of skincare products is to apply “thinnest to thickest”. If you are using a cleanser, a toner, an eye cream, a moisturizer and an SPF, but you want to add a Vitamin C serum to your regime for the wonderful antioxidant qualities as well as the moisture retention it can offer to your skin, you find yourself asking, where should you add this product in your morning regime?

Vitamin C Serum Application to Your Skin

Your Vitamin C Serum should be applied to the skin after your Toner, but before your eye cream. If you think about it, the cleanser is always going to be the first product used on your skin. Your toner is usually a watery consistency, and your eye cream is just that, a cream. A cream is thicker than a Serum. Therefore, the serum would be the next product after toner. Another way to look at it; if you apply a cream (thick consistency) to your skin first, how is the Vitamin C (thin consistency) going to penetrate through the barrier you provided your skin when you applied the cream?

Use Advanced Skincare Products from Same Line

Use Same Skin Care Product Line Something else to think about when applying different skin care products -- As a Medical Esthetician, I always recommend using products within the same skin care system, such as Obagi Nu-Derm, and Obagi C-RX, MD Forte, Vivité, or Kinerase. Most product lines have a detailed regimen of how to use that system. Because these systems are complete and offer the full range of products needed for healthy skin, a system of products is easier to use. This is especially important with the Obagi Nu-Derm system.

We hope this information will eliminate some of the confusion and encourage you to get the most out your skin care regime for the healthiest, most radiant skin.

We also know that not every product works for each individual. Therefore, we offer a no-questions asked, money-back guarantee if you are not 100% satisfied.
